CA Family Justice Centers by The Numbers: Family Justice Centers have grown from one center in 2002 to 26 in 2023 with four more in development, CA FJCs serve more than 70,000 victims of violence a year, 20% of victims served by CA FJCs are children, CA's FJCs have seen a 30% increase in victim requests for services since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CFJN is a network of Family Justice Centers (FJCs) which has grown from one center in 2002 to 26 centers in 2023 with four more in development. FJCs work to protect and support victims of violence, including children.

Family Justice Centers provide services for over 70,000 adult and children trauma survivors each year, with spikes in demand for services up by 30% since the onset of COVID-19.

20% of victims service by California's Family Justice Centers are children.

Domestic violence is happening every minute. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States - more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.

Since the pandemic, domestic violence cases against women have increased by 25-33 percent globally.

Partner violence accounts for about 20% of all violent crime in California.

Recent research points to domestic violence as a precipitating factor for over 68% of mass shootings (Zeoli and Paruk 2019; Webster et al. 2020 as cited).

Children exposed to violence are at higher risk for having poor health and educational outcomes, for being victims or perpetrators of bullying and for using violence later in life.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) - traumatic events in childhood (0-17 years) are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse problems in adolescence and adulthood.

CFJN Advocacy Day 2024 was a tremendous success, uniting participants from the California Family Justice Center community across the state! Check out our Advocacy Day recap video.

Advocacy Day 2024 kicked off under a tent on the grounds of the State Capitol. We were delighted to be welcomed by Sacramento County District Attorney, Thien Ho and Faith Whitmore, Executive Director of the Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center. In the afternoon, CFJN was honored on the floor of the CA State Assembly with a proclamation declaring June 3, 2024 as California Family Justice Center Day presented by Assemblymember Tim Grayson. The day continued with legislative meetings, setting a new record for the most CFJN Advocacy Day meetings at close to 60!

Along the way, we also found time to honor Assemblymember Tim Grayson with the "CFJN Lifetime Champion Award" for his longtime support of family justice centers and CFJN. We also honored Senator Angelique Ashby with the "CFJN Legislator of the Year" award for her work on SB 989, the Justice for Victims Act strengthening investigation protocols.

Our day of advocacy ended on a sweet note with ice cream, music, and sharing stories from the days inspiring conversations and activities.
